Vegan

The Vegan Trademark is the authentic international vegan standard and is managed by The Vegan Society; the charity that created the word 'vegan' back in 1944. Their dedicated and experienced vegan team check each product application against the below criteria, working with manufacturers and suppliers across a range of fields to ensure that each product meets the highest vegan standards. The Vegan Trademark is renewed on an annual basis to ensure they have the most up to date information on all the products Sop certify.

When we think about mindful consumption, cost per use is a way of evaluating whether or not your purchase is sustainable or not. Asking questions like “will I use/wear this piece more than 30 times?” “Will I fix it when it breaks?” “When I’ve finished using it, will I extent the lifespan of the item by giving it to someone I know/charity?” All of these actions will decrease the overall carbon footprint of your purchase.

How do you work out the cost per use? Divide the price of the product by 30! We use 30 as this is the average amount of uses items are thought to have.

Sop have a charitable partner, the Norfolk Wildlife Trust (NWT). The NWT envisions a future where wildlife is protected and enhanced through sympathetic management, and where people are connected with and inspired by Norfolk’s wildlife and wild spaces.

‘The combination of ethical sourcing, manufacturing and packaging of the products themselves, and the contribution made towards our work with each purchase, demonstrates a shared celebration of nature in Norfolk. We look forward to working with Sop as the range continues to grow.’ Pamela Abbott, chief executive, Norfolk Wildlife Trust.

NWT is the oldest trust of its kind in Britain. In 1926 the trust purchased 400 acres of marsh at Cley on the north Norfolk coast to be kept as a bird sanctuary. This provided a blueprint for nature conservation which has now been replicated across the country.

Sop are proud to support NWT in its vital work with our donation. With 35,000 members, the trust cares for over 50 nature reserves, protects habitats for the region’s much-loved species, provides nature education to young people, and runs hundreds of events every year.

The Story Behind Sop

Sop was conceived and created by Fiona Burrage, photographer and creative director of Nor–Folk. The idea was sparked by the renovation of the Water Cabin, Fiona’s holiday haven on the Norfolk Broads, as a way to embellish the guest experience. Her family’s deep connection to the local landscape is rooted in the brand’s visual and verbal language. And this intrinsic sense of place became its name – ‘Scents of place’ or Sop – a nod to Norfolk and the emotive fragrances it conjures. Inspired by meandering rivers, vast sandy beaches, and the serene spaces in between, each product’s name is also rooted in the region, adopting Norfolk’s dialect to summon the scent and experience.

Fiona Burrage, Founder

"My aim is for Sop to be a celebration of everything it stands for and all that it’s inspired by – from the Norfolk dialect to the natural environment."

Low-Carbon And Local

Sop believe a successful brand is a sustainable one. Sop's aim is to leave as small a footprint as possible, and everything they make is bottled, printed, and fulfilled in Norfolk and made by Norfolk folk. Sop are proudly working towards becoming a carbon-neutral company.

Healing Not Harmful

Sop does not compromise the planet for profit. All our products are certified cruelty-free, and vegan. Sop don’t use any GM ingredients, parabens, SLS, silicones, mineral oils, palm oil, or artificial colours or fragrances.

Doing Good – Inside And Out

Sop's aluminium containers don’t just look good. They use this infinitely recyclable metal for its lightweight, non-corrosive properties, its relatively short landfill lifecycle, and its energy-saving appeal.
