Every Barrio Santo piece is 100% made in Portugal from beginning to end. Before any kind of manufacturing begins, the collection is designed inhouse by a multidisciplinary team of fashion designers based on extensive market and industry research. Barrio Santo develop their organic fabrics with a few select Portuguese suppliers. All of their suppliers are GOTS certified and meet a set of sustainability requirements. Dyeing, printing and other finishing processes are also handled by Portuguese suppliers that are also working on reducing their footprint – they give a special shoutout to out dyeing supplier, typically a highly pollutant sector, that was certified with STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®.

Barrio Santo proudly only work with organic, recycled, recyclable or compostable materials. From the packaging they use to send products, to the clothes they make, to the carefully made interior and exterior labels: all materials used are sustainable. Barrio Santo make sure that the packaging that arrives at your house has little to no impact on the environment – their hangtags are made with recycled paper; the cardboard box is also recycled and all outer packing is 100% compostable.

When we think about mindful consumption, cost per use is a way of evaluating whether or not your purchase is sustainable or not. Asking questions like “will I use/wear this piece more than 30 times?” “Will I fix it when it breaks?” “When I’ve finished using it, will I extent the lifespan of the item by giving it to someone I know/charity?” All of these actions will decrease the overall carbon footprint of your purchase.

How do you work out the cost per use? Divide the price of the product by 30! We use 30 as this is the average amount of uses items are thought to have.

All Barrio Santo suppliers are GOTS certified and meet a set of sustainability requirements. Dyeing, printing and other finishing processes are also handled by Portuguese suppliers that are also working on reducing their footprint – they give a special shoutout to out dyeing supplier, typically a highly pollutant sector, that was certified with STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®.

All Barrio Santo garments are manufactured at Tetribérica, their parent company which is located in the north of Portugal. The factory is staffed with 48 very talented employees.
